NZ SCHOOL SPORT WINTER TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW
Trident Senior Girls Underwater Hockey
The girls put together a terrific team effort at the Underwater Hockey Schools Nationals held in Auckland this past week. Only the top 10 teams in New Zealand qualified for this National Championship so the competition was top notch. Our Trident girls held their own, playing tough against all others. In the end they secured a 5th place finish. Not a podium finish, but top 5 in
the country is an awesome result. Thanks to Coach Ross Rowe, Team Manager Rachael Andrews and Trident.
Teacher in Charge of UWH Mr Jeff Lee.
Trident 1st XI Girls Hockey
Both the boys and girls 1 st XI hockey teams played at tournaments in Tauranga this year. The girls competed in the Mary Clinton cup and after digging deep through their pool play went on to an intense shoot out in the quarter finals they then went on to win
their semi-final and secured a spot in the final. After a week-long of hockey the girls fought to the bitter end in the final against JPC - unfortunately it wasn’t our day but awesome effort coming home with the silver medal - well done girls!
Thanks to Coach Aaron Box and Manager/TIC Toni Harvey.
Trident 1st XI Boys Hockey
The boys team played in the Olympic Stick tournament. They won 2 pool games and draw 1 which put them through to the next stage. They battled it out in their final tournament game against ACG Strathallan. Although we came up short with a 3-1
score, the team secured 6th place overall. Well done boys on an awesome week of hockey!
We wish to thank coaches Gavin Rothwell, Choc Maxwell and Richard Pinckney.
Trident Premier Netball team
Congratulations to the Trident Premier team on an awesome UNISS tournament! The girls played hard and kept their composure when times were tough. Even though we fell short of making nationals, you all should be proud of efforts. The girls
managed an 8 th placing out of 32 teams.
Thank you to coaches Whaea Te Ahuru, Ngarori Waititi and manager Linda Redmond.
Trident 1st XI Football Boys
The Trident Senior Boys Football Squad competed in the Linwood Tournament in Dunedin, reaching the finals after a tight semi-final win against Logan Park High School. Congratulations to the boys for their effort in the final where they were
narrowly defeated by Roncalli.
Thanks to coach Mr Jon Stanhope and Mr Glenn Barr.
Trident 1st XI Girls Football
The girls started their week well winning three out of five games to place them in the top 8 of the Grant Jarvis Tournament in Palmerston North. With a mainly young team, the girls did well to come 8th overall and had a great time
away.
We would like to thank Coach James Anthony, Mrs Adelaide Roper and Mrs Morgan Young.
Trident Junior A Boys Basketball
The Junior travelled to Rotorua to play in the Zone 2 Junior boys Premiership tournament. They went through pool play and playoff games scoring over 100 points in every game. Come finals time, we knew St Johns would be a different story but were confident the team could compete with them. It was a close game throughout but St Johns came away with the win 82-76.
Thanks to coaches Matua Mike and Brad Sparrow along with Zavia Walker and Te Ahuroa Cossey. Thanks also to Jacob HIllman for coming along as the team referee.
Trident Senior A Boys Basketball
Also in Rotorua were the Senior A boys playing in the Zone 2 AA Senior boys
Premiership tournament. They started well with a win first up but struggled in other pool games. These losses placed them in the bottom tier where they won the rest of their games.
We wish to thank coach Te Ahuroa Cossey and Zavia Walker.
Massive thank you to our Winter Tournament Week sponsors!
