Winter Tournament Week
Message from Matua Mikaere (Tumuaki)
As we head into tournament week, we wish all of our Trident teams the very best as they represent our kura across Aotearoa. Whether on the turf, field, court, track, or arena, you carry with you the support of our school and community.
To our girls and boys hockey, girls and boys football, netball, rugby league 1st XIII and U15, equestrian, and cycling teams, go well, go hard, and uphold our values of Mākōkō (excellence and striving for quality), Atawhai (supporting and caring for one another), and Kia Manawanui (having courage, resilience, and big hearts).
We are proud of the dedication you have shown in preparing for this week. Remember, it’s not just about the results but about the way you compete, the spirit you show, and the connections you build.
Finally, I’d like to take an opportunity to thank our coaching and support staff and volunteers. We wouldn’t be able to run these teams without you.
Good luck, Team Trident.
Message from Steph Walker (Sports Coordinator)
To our teams- Tournament weeks are the pinnacle of the sporting season. All of your hard work and commitment throughout the season comes together to achieve the goals you have set and enjoy what are probably the final games of the year.
The all round experience of tournament week will be a highlight for many and will provide life long memories.
For our Year 13s, we wish you all the best and know you will give it your all. Thank you for what you have given to Trident sport.
A big thank you to our coaches, managers and staff in charge for their time and dedication to our teams and best wishes to everyone for the week ahead.

Yes, the Trident Boys Tournament Team is definitely looking forward to this year’s tournament in Christchurch. We’re optimistic heading in, as we have a very talented squad with lots of ability and potential. Although we’re a very young team, this is a great opportunity to give our younger players valuable exposure to tournament football, helping them grow and prepare for the years ahead. At the same time, we want to honour our small group of Year 13s and give them the send-off they deserve by aiming to place as high as we can.

We’re all really looking forward to heading down to Napier for tournament week this year! Last year was such an awesome experience for us, up at the Auckland competition, we played some great football, had heaps of fun, and made memories we’ll never forget. This year we’re aiming to build on that, push ourselves for a strong result, and of course enjoy the whole week together. It’s also exciting to welcome some new players into the tournament team, and we can’t wait to see how everyone comes together on and off the field.
Our season so far has been really positive, we finished our season in Division 1 for the Bay of Plenty, which we’re really proud of. With lots of new players joining early in the season, we’ve been working hard on building our connections and finding our rhythm as a team. Heading into tournament week, we’re excited for the challenge of playing new and unknown teams, and we can’t wait to see how we match up!

I am absolutely looking forward to my last school tournament. The ultimate goal is to win the tournament and have Trident move up to the Rankin/India Shield Tournament for next year. The next goal would be that we top our pool and get into the top 4 for the tournament. My expectation is that we play some good team hockey and have fun.
Coach Comment- Cameron Ogle
We’re definitely looking forward to the tournament this year. The team has been putting in a lot of hard work and the goal is to push for a top-four finish. More importantly, we want to enjoy the experience together and make it a memorable one for our seven Year 13 players who are in their final season of school hockey. They’ve given a lot to the team, and this is a chance for the whole squad to play for them.

This season has been such a journey for us. We’ve been putting in the hard work with one goal in mind- to get to UNISS and push for a top four finish.
We’ve had our share of ups and downs, but I honestly think that’s what’s made us tougher and more connected as a team. Every challenge has been a chance for us to grow, and now we’re ready to bring all of that onto the court in Auckland.
As captain, I’m super proud of how far we’ve come. Our senior players have been awesome leaders and role models, stepping up to guide our younger players and help them gain confidence.
