Darren Florence, Assistant HOD Science, is brand new to Trident High School in 2023. Darren comes from a background in veterinary medicine having practiced as a large animal vet in the Bay of Plenty, Thames Valley and in Rural Wales. Following a late calling into teaching, he has undertaken various roles at Rotorua Boys' High School during the last seven years including teacher of Biology and Chemistry, assistant boarding house master, HOD for Science and rugby coach/manager. Darren has a passion for the great outdoors and particularly enjoys spending time with family whilst hunting, fishing, mountain biking and surfing. Darren says “I’m really excited to be starting at Trident High School, not just for the wonderful outdoor opportunities but also to be working in a friendly and welcoming team and being part of a well-resourced Science department! I can see a lot of exciting opportunities for our ākonga and I cannot wait to get stuck in.”
